Managed and kept up to date by Chicago Public School students: Steven Fitzgerald, Melanie Ziaziaris, Madison Butler, Noah Lazers, and Molly Bryson. The site is based in Jones College Prep in Chicago, Illinois, as a part of our American Literature class. Our class has been search ways to improve equity in education across CPS. We define equity as equality of opportunity and availability of resources for all social classes, races, and genders. In searching to make equity in education a reality, we came across the school to prison pipeline statistics, which provided us with an initiative to research ways to improve disciplinary measures in schools. In an attempt to replace harsh punishments such as suspensions and expulsions with an alternative solution, restorative justice programs are being implemented in a small handful of schools across CPS. It is our goal to enlighten people about the inefficiency of current disciplinary methods and suggest ways to reform the system in order to benefit all students and discourage the school to prison pipeline. These solutions can be found in unconventional methods of retribution such as peer juries, peace circles, and conflict resolution.
